There were many new things to see — and even more inspiring people to meet — at this year’s Bett in London. Among the many photos I took, I chose this one as a symbol.
It’s a simple pendant, a gift from two children from a school in Hong Kong. They were at Bett together with other students to present their invention, Pet Majordomo, designed to keep pets safe when their owners are away.
For me, that was the real meaning of being there: a reminder that technology should enable our students to express themselves, to show us adults how capable they are of thinking about the importance of caring — for others, for animals, for the environment. To make the world a better place.
It doesn’t matter whether they use the latest robot or just a cardboard box with LEDs and batteries… what matters is that we, as educators, find ways to transform teaching so that it truly fits children and young people, equipping them with the skills to face — and win — the challenges of the future.
