A Dive into STEAM – STEM week at IC Chioggia 2

I recently had the honour of serving as testimonial at the “Un tuffo nelle STEAM” initiative, held at the Istituto Comprensivo Sottomarina Nord in Chioggia, part of the National STEAM Week established by the Italian Ministry of Education.

Over four days—from February 5 to 8, 2024—students from primary and secondary schools immersed themselves in a series of engaging, marine-themed STEAM workshops designed and run by their teachers. Activities ranged from robotics challenges with LEGO, coding, tinkering, making, to 3D programming with immersive environments using visors.

From my perspective as a PhD candidate in Educational Robotics, it was deeply rewarding to witness how students of all ages—primary through lower secondary—engaged so naturally with technology as a creative medium. The combination of hands-on making, robotics, and coding illuminated how STEAM isn’t just about scientific knowledge—it’s a powerful way to activate curiosity, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving.
